About this speaker

Doctor. Coach. Supervisor. Mum of two, wife, sister, aunty, friend, neighbour, me. In any order and often all at once.

After completing medical school in 2006 in Scotland, I moved to Australia in 2007 looking for adventure. I questioned my career in medicine many times and over the next ten years meandered through medicine squeezing as much out of work and into life as possible.

For eight years I rotated through various specialities, working extensively in emergency medicine, obstetrics, rural medicine and spent a short time in most other areas. I am now dual trained in General Practice and Palliative Medicine and work full time as a consultant in Palliative Medicine.

In amongst all of this I met my husband and had two children. Thanks to medical training (and the quest for adventure) we have moved house multiple times and are finally settled in Buderim on the Sunshine Coast.

Working in palliative care, I am exposed on a daily basis to the unpredictable and unreliable nature of life. So many people are shackled by unrealistic expectations which limit their ability to live a full and satisfying life. They realise they are living their life the way they think they should, rather than the way they want.

Life might be unpredictable, but your experience of it does not have to be.
